In Her Own Words: Skyler Bollinger - New Meets Plus The Ever Popular Draper's Question Of The Week

Hello everyone! This week we competed at the Palatine Invite for the first time and it was quite an experience. It took three tries to get the girls varsity race going but after two restarts we finally managed to begin the race. The first mile and a half to two miles I hung on with Kaitlyn Ko and Whitney O’ Bryan, a girl from Kentucky, but I fell back the last mile and came in third. The goal for the race was to end strong but there was obviously some to be desired with my finish. There wasn’t much of a kick. As a team we had three girls in the top 30, including Kelsey Leedy and Maddie Dearborn. We placed sixth, but were pretty satisfied because we were the first 2A team. Overall it was a fun meet and I’m glad we had the opportunity to be a part of it.

This week, in practice, we are working on improving the last mile of our race(for obvious reasons) so most of our workouts concentrate on ending faster than we began, and building.  We’ve also really gotten into ice baths lately, and somehow, I managed to forget extra clothes and a towel on all of the days we took them. Although it’s not as fun when you yourself are in the pool of ice, watching other people’s reaction is quite entertaining.

Coming up this weekend we have another new meet; the Falcon Classic Invite. We’re expecting more great competition and are excited for another new course. Also, it is another flight meet, which is always fun, and I will be running flight 1. Unfortunately it is an all girls race so I will have to warm up alone, but hopefully I will find someone new to power scream with. In case anyone was wondering, a power scream is something we do before every race to calm ourselves down. All you have to do is count to three and scream REALLY loud.

And now everyone’s favorite part of the week, “Draper’s Question of the Week!!”

Would you rather be able to run at 100mph or fly at 5mph?

I know… it’s deep.  That’s all I’ve got for now so have a nice week and GO FOXES!!!
