In His Own Words: Nick Hess

Hello everyone, as you may know, my name is Nick Hess and I am a senior at Saint Thomas More in Champaign Illinois. This being my second blog, I plan on giving a little background about STM, myself, and what I like to do for fun outside of running.

Just a couple things about myself: I’m on the swim team in the summer and winter, I am a member of National Honors Society, I love running, I have two dogs, two siblings, I love a good steak, mi clase favorito es Espanol, and I like my country music.

During a school year most of my time revolves around school and training. Although school and training eat up a majority of my time, I do still try to balance a social life. A typical Saturday night usually consists of spending time with the girlfriend or with the guys. My best friends are the guys on the team, which I’m sure is also the case with many other teams out there. When you train side by side and suffer through those hard workouts with your teammates, it really creates a bond between the team. I am very thankful for the team we have and the group of guys I am able to be with and train with every day. Usually our weekends consist of hanging out, whether it be going to see a movie or getting something to eat. To be honest we almost always end up eating at Buffalo Wild Wings because we can never compromise on anything different, which I’m totally fine with because let’s be honest, who doesn’t like bdubs? But yeah, during the school year I tend to stay focused on the season and my studies, as well as attempting to balance a social life. School nights are usually pretty routine. They consist of getting home from practice, eating a lot, doing homework, and going to bed. Usually I try to go to bed as early as possible because I cannot function when I’m short on sleep. It’s safe to say that I am not a night owl. I am usually just so tired from the day all I want to do upon getting home is go to sleep. So yeah that’s a normal day for me, nothing too exciting during the school week outside of practice and meets.

That’s it for this week. Hope everyone is having a good week and training is going well as the season slowly ramps up. Good luck to everyone this year!
