Salute To Seniors: Keegan Ross - Stanford Olympia

What was your most memorable race?

The 4x200 at the 2012 state track meet, it was a heart breaker but I will never forget that race.

What would you consider your biggest competition?

There are a lot of good runners who were great competition; my biggest competition was myself, I always tried to beat my previous times in every event.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

Qualifying for the state track meet twice would be the accomplishments that stand out the most.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I could do it all over again I would make sure I was running the 400 earlier in my career.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles I have had to overcome include my sophomore year when I got a stress fracture and couldn’t run the last 4 meets of the year. I had ran on our varsity 4x200 relay all year until I was injured. We were close to a school record and without me they ended up breaking it, and qualifying for state with a very high seed at the state meet. My senior year again we were closing in on breaking a school record in the 4x200. We were very capable of breaking it and through the first three legs of the relay at the state meet we were on pace to break it. Our last exchange was outside the zone and we were disqualified.

What will you miss the most?

I will defiantly miss everything about high school track and field but if I had to pick one thing that I would miss the most it would be all of the time spent hanging out with my teammates off the track.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

My advice to younger athletes would be to always work hard in practice and take care of your body. You can only expect to get out of the sport what you put into it.

What are your college plans?

Next fall I will start my college education at Heartland Community College, they do not have a track and field team but I plan to start a track club, and I will compete as an unattached runner next year at open college track meets.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank all my friend and family for supporting me through everything, and all my coaches, especially the head track coach at Olympia High School, David Stine. I would not be the runner I am today without him as my coach.
