In Her Own Words: Kaylee Flanagan On The Foot Locker Experience

Qualifying for the Foot Locker National Cross Country Meet was one of the greatest experiences I have yet to have in my running career. Ever since the first time I heard about this meet, I knew that I wanted to take part in it and compete with runners that have the same love of the sport as I do. Every runner at the Foot Locker Meet shared the same goals as I do about running and that is why it was so easy to make such good friendships while being there. Not only was it great to meet other high school runners from around the country, but it was also exciting to meet with Olympians that had competed at the Foot Locker National Meet previously and being able to hear what they had to say about the race. This experience was like nothing I could have ever imagined. From the moment you stepped off the plane you were no longer a regular runner, but a champion in the eyes of the Foot Locker coordinators and they treated you like one too. When arriving at the Hotel Del Coronado, the staff handed us our room keys and then a backpack filled with supplies from Foot Locker jackets and shirts to Saucony spikes and running shoes. Everything that the staff did was revolved around making sure the athletes had what they needed at all times and making this a great experience for everyone.

Running on the legendary Foot Locker course at Balboa Park was one of the most exciting parts about the whole trip for me. Knowing that I would be running on the same course that many Olympians and elite college runners had ran on before me felt amazing! I am hoping to stay healthy and be able to qualify next year so I can relive this amazing experience!
