Tremendous depth will drape the Gately Track facility all evening long. While #3 Kenwood is a work in progress, head coach Mike Runnels says his Broncos will strut a potent lineup. Starting with outstanding seniors Parrish Hartley, Armond Boulware, Isaiah Irvin, and Logic West. Hartley, Boulware, and West will be in the 60 and 200 dashes. Irvin will run the 400.
Staying with Kenwood, they will trot out seniors Jahari Horne and Jordan Rabb in the 60HH. "These two are looking like prospects for the city title," according to Runnels. In addition, look for a solid 4x200 and a 4x400 relay that may dip under 3:30, less than full strength.
Over the past several years, Lane Tech has finished second to Kenwood in the city title ranks. This year's Champions roster has garnered some key experience in the same time frame. Starting with the field events, which seem like they are rapidly improving. Senior Prendell Myles and junior Daniel Howard are potential 50-foot performers. Throws coach Pat Bartman indicated they will get there very soon. Kendrick Lyles-Henderson (Jr) is a key figure in the long jump but will be contesting just the high jump in an attempt to clear six feet.
Lane is known for their disntance running. Look for the Champions to load up in the 800m. Owen Lilley (Sr), Peter Georgopoulos (Jr), Quinn Anderson (So), Samuel Assefa (So), and Mathew Melo (Jr) will look to run 2:03 or faster. Tristan Wong (Jr) and Alex Fitzpatrick (Jr) are entered in the 1600m.
Payton HS been a force at the 2A level, winning the state 4x800 relay two years in a row. The strong quartet of Tra'monti Williams (Jr), Preston Ellis (Sr), Declan Slavin (Jr), and Ryan Murray (Sr.) will run in the 1600m.
