The Benton squad crossed state lines over to the 'Show-Me' state last weekend and contested the Forest Park XC Festival in St. Louis.
In the featured Green Division 5-kilometer race, it was the Rangers' own Gabriel McLain who hoisted the individual gold hardware with a finishing mark of 15:14.0.
His effort stands as a current season Illinois No. 1 for the 5k event and demonstrates a significant improvement over the 16:26.1 clocking he produced at the '23 edition of the meet.
During his post-race interview, McLain remarked that pre-meet rankings and videos didn't fully showcase the potential he felt like he brought to the table. He verified that point as a fact once the gun sounded.
McLain feels as though his performance at the Festival sets himself up well for a strong finish to his senior campaign.
