Simone Bernard leaps to victory in her first outdoor meet of the season

BELLEVILLE- The outdoor season is still in its early stages in the state, but there was some quality action at Belleville West HS. The annual Lady Maroon Invitational was in danger of getting canceled until meet officials were able to shift the date to a day prior than usual. Fortunately, the 19 girls teams got in some quality marks and O'Fallon walked away with the title scoring 119 points.

Key highlights-- 

DeAndranay Chism (Jr., Belleville East) fresh off of a solid performance at the Illinois Top Times, won open events in personal best efforts: 100 (12.20) and 200 (24.87); also ran a leg on the 4x100 relay that clocked 49.10 (same time as O'Fallon).

Claudia Ouimet (Jr., Chicago Whitney Young) is expected to be a force in the long hurdles, dropped a PB 46.44.

Molly Grohmann (Sr., Waterloo) continued her successful way in the high jump, winning with a 5'5" effort.

Simone Bernard (So., Whitney Young) is another piece of the Lady Dolphins' quest for respect on the state level this season. Bernard clocked 15.08 (100H) and 18'0.25" (long jump) to grab 20 big points.

Distance ace Elena Rybak (So., Father McGivney) produced the fastest time in the 1600m in 5:09.36

Emily Sykes (Jr., Granite City) swept the throws, led by a charting discus throw of 118'0'50"
