-The frontier of all of the classification meets is right here. Good, bad, or indifferent this is the one that track and field fans want to see.
==============
Alex Sohn (Sr., Normal Community) is the state's top shot putter and one of the best in the nation at 63-7. Winning is in his favor but it will not be a piece of cake as still competition in the name of Javaris Ambrose (Sr., Harvey Thornton), Tyler Michelini (Sr., Roselle Lake Park) and several others will be waiting.
Brody Squires (Sr., Aurora Waubonsie Valley) has come of age in the long jump. He has cleared an IL#2 23-2.75 and this is his event to lose quite frankly. Another 23-foot effort will put him in the mix for the outdoor state title.
Joshua Meister (Sr., Oak Park-River Forest) started his season by clearing 16-1 feet in the pole vault early on. He has not hit the mark since February so this opportunity is a good way to get back on track.
The 60 Meter Dash: A deep field of entrants under 7.00 awaits the fans. Daniel Lacy (Sr., Champaign Centennial) leads the charge with a 6.89. Look for the emerging Danny Eloe (Sr., Naperville North) who has competed almost entirely in 55m dashes. The conversion rate favors him to challenge for the title but great block starts and accelerations are key.
800m: The four lap affair appears to be the strongest of the distance races. Caleb Levy (Sr., Warren) will duel IL#2 Landan Gillespie (Sr., Chicago Kenwood). Gillespie ran 1:54.46 last weekend at the CPS Championship. He will be tough to beat especially with his newfound confidence and execution. Milers Riley Newport (Sr., Dekalb) and Trey Sato (Jr., Grayslake Central) are not to be overlooked.
