The southwest Chicago suburbs are quickly becoming a hub for pole vaulters across the state and nation. Jake Winder and Luke Winder continue their father Tim's pole vault legacy after he coached for 26 years at North Central College. Their childhood immersed in pole vault led them to major success in high school, college, and beyond: Luke will be competing for Team USA at the World Championships in Eugene, OR later in July.
Jake's impetus to start RISE was to make world-class facilities, equipment, and coaching accessible to all. After a turbulent start due to COVID lockdowns, RISE is now flourishing. The roster of all-state pole vaulters who are coached at RISE continually attracts more athletes. The facility in Shorewood, IL garners respect.
The MileSplit IL team visited a RISE practice to investigate what makes the training there so prolific. We talked with multiple all-state pole vaulters who shared their experience and training philosophy. And now, we present the public to peek behind the success of RISE Pole Vault.
