Ava Parekh Places 10th In Millrose Games Mile Debut

The long-time standing Millrose Games is next level indoor track and field

Sometimes the raw numbers can be deceptive... if you know what's going on beforehand.

Chicago Latin HS senior Ava Parekh has a set standard for herself that many cannot achieve. The soon-to-be Stanford University Cardinal knew the implications of competing in the prestigious Millrose Games alongside future teammates Juliette Whittaker (MD) and Riley Stewart (CO). Parekh had only been several weeks deep into serious training since a break from her outstanding cross country season.

The key to performing well at a premium level on the indoor circuit is navigating tight turns and maintaining good positioning. For Parekh, she got into a bit of trouble early on, riding the rail and being boxed in which is dangerous. Even so, Parekh was within 1.5 seconds for the first quarter-mile (71.5) and half-mile (2:25). She sat in fifth place entering the third stanza.

Parekh began to lose ground on the field as she fell to ninth place at three-quarters of a mile (3:39.6). Despite falling another notch inside of the final quarter-mile, Parekh was able to run 4:52.31. It happens to be Parekh's best ever season-opening mile and when she begins clicking on all cylinders, it will be dangerous times for the girls in her path.
