The up and down feeling of not knowing what the 2020 cross country season was enough to rattle the best of any runner. For Chicago Latin junior Ava Parekh, she was able to take the seriousness of the Covid-19 Pandemic in stride and keep things in perspective. One such noticeable but not forced item was her sportsmanship after each race with opponents and teammates. These items are immeasurable.
As for the actional performances, the numbers speak for themselves. Parekh completed an undefeated in-state campaign which included the Class 2 Shazam Championship 5k with a time of 17:39- more than 20 seconds faster than runner-up Brooke Stromsland of Lakes. Although there wasn't a national championship to compete in, Parekh placed third in the XC Town Meet of Champions, running 17:36.
