Over the past several seasons, St. Charles East High School has developed into one of the elite cross country programs in the state. After placing fifth in the 2018 3A state championship, the Saints under the tutelage of head coach Chris Bosworth, returned in 2019 fully loaded and won the first state title in school history. This powerful team would later go on to place fourth in the Team Cross Country Nationals in Portland, Oregon.
2020 was supposed to be the year the Saints defend their IHSA state title after coming into the new year ranked #1. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic had other ideas such as derailing the normal process. IHSA brass amended the season calendar and things were canceled following the sectional round.
The final resort would the club team and individual styled Shazam Championships slated for November 8. Key members of the freshly minted Saints XC Club. Before key members such as junior Micah Wilson and seniors Luke Schildmeyer and Zach Loomis headed south to Chillicothe to partake and polish off another major title, they self-conducted a workout with teammates. It was a last prep for the championship that consisted of 2x short hills climb followed by 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off.
