2018 was arguably the single best year from top to bottom for a male sprinter in Illinois history. Then Plainfield North sophomore Marcellus Moore had made an on the national scene during the indoor season by placing well at several national invitationals including the New Balance Nationals Indoors.
But it was back home at nearby Plainfield South High School for their state sectional that Moore really showed out and got himself primed for the pending state meet. In the state's top match up of top sprinters, Moore electrified those in attendance with a lightening fast 100m in 10.33. It was one of the fastest ever wind-legal recordings in the FAT era and put the entire state of Illinois on notice. Though Courtney Lindsey of Rock Island took second twice to Moore, he was a certified legitimate force to be reckoned with.
