2016 was the year of 3A defending 800m state champion Michaela Hackbarth of Downers Grove South. Coming into the Lockport Girls Sectional, Hackbarth was slated to cruise her way to state in her featured event. Opening up a slight gap early with an opening 64.xx 400m, Hackbarth cruised to victory with the fastest sectional mark in all of Illinois.
