If you have ever taken a ride down the memory lane of IHSA State 4x100s, the names E. St. Louis Lincoln and Senior, Thornwood, and Lake Park turn up as elite forces. Another name that pops up is Cahokia. Under the guidance of head coach Leroy Millsap, the Comanches have used this relay to put a stamp on their legacy in this sport. The team's school record of 41.42 happened to be the state meet record from 2006.
Coach Millsap's 2015 outfit happened to be arguably the most dominant force in state history (a debate for another day). But for kicks and giggles, Millsap wanted to run get under 41-seconds. "I think we can run 40.5 if we can get the stick around the track," he said. The Comanches cruised through the prelim round with the second-best mark of 41.84 behind Chicago Phillips 41.72. The final would be a totally different affair as the bunch from the St. Louis metro-area blew away Phillips and the field in a record 41.12. Superstar anchor Jamari Ward proved more than just a jumper with a sensational and crisp run for the gold medal.
