Long Jump-
2019 State Champion: Jamal Safo (Crete-Monee), 23'5.5" [+1.6]
Key Athletes: Elijah McCauley (So., Belleville East), John Moellenkamp (Sr., Mt. Prospect [Prospect]), Kaden Turner (Sr., Chicago Heights [Bloom Township]), Onyi Ukaobasi (Sr., Geneva), Kenyon Johnson (Sr., Edwardsville), Kyshun Robinson (Sr., Hillside [Proviso West]), Jylen Spivey (Sr., West Aurora), Colton Doll (Sr., Maple Park [Kaneland)], Isaiah Tyler (Sr., Maywood [Proviso East])
Breakdown: For this event, we look indoors for consistency and at wind-legal performances to help gauge who may be the real threats here preseason.
Kaden Tuner is at or near the top for most of those requirements, the senior is also blessed with sub eleven speed to compliment his bunnies. He also has an all-conditions 24ft performance under his belt, we could be on classification record watch.
Elijah McCauley has some thinking of a former Lancer who popped onto the state scene as a freshman (Adoree Jackson), seeing how his career unfolded we're sure he'll accept the comparison. Look for the Sophomore to improve as he gets faster and stronger.
John Moellenkamp didn't have much of a resume indoors last season, but he caught some big jumps once he hit Charleston and looks to repeat his efforts.
Kenyon Johnson, the Tigers dual jump threat has shown consistency over 22ft as well, he has a 23ft jump on his legs already. If you snooze on him you may miss something big.
Keep an eye on Kyshun Robinson who has already PR'd this preseason and Onyi Ukaobasi who caught a hot streak during the state series.
