Class 2A Boys Sprints Pre-Season Preview

110HH -
2019 State Champion: Finnigan Schirmer (Marengo), 14.22  [+2.5]
Key Athletes: Schirmer, Steven Harris (Sr., Cahokia), Jamariantte Burgess (Sr., East St Louis Sr), CJ Shoaf (Jr., Mahomet-Seymour), Kevyere Mack (Jr., Peoria Richwoods), Bri'yon Watts (Jr., Chicago Southland College Prep), Elijah Pena (Sr., Woodstock North), Kai Baumgartner (Sr., Champaign Central), Justin Huelsmann (Sr. Breese Central), Angel Peray (Sr., Plano), Hampton Petsche (Jr., Galena)

Breakdown: Three all-state finishers in this event return, all three are also the list leaders for the state of Illinois.

This race will be the first test for reigning champion Finnigan Schirmer on his quest for a quartet of gold medals. The state's top overall hurdler will not only look to defend his title, but he will also set his eyes on a sub 14 second time and a possible class record (13.93).

Don't think the other two returning medalists will just roll over while Schirmer chases history. Steven Harris showed great improvements in his times during the championship part of the season, he wants gold too, and we are sure he wants the record also.

Jamariantte Burgess has two state championship rings on his fingers, but no hurdle gold around his neck. This race serves as his first opportunity to change that, as he hopes to forget his hurdle six interference and sprint away with a title and possible record before he ends his track career to focus on football in college.

Six all-state spots are open for the taking: look for CJ Shoaf to claim one of those as well as long hurdle threat Bri'yon Watts. Elijah Pena and Kai Baumgartner look to crack that 15-second barrier for their career and earn an All-State medal.
