HF Girls ABC Showcase Floods The Scene With Top Marks

It was a proud moment for the Homewood-Flossmoor 4x400 quartet after setting the indoor school record

The number one girl's indoor meet of the 2019 season lived up to the hype, at days end the meet produced thirty top ten times including five state-leading marks. The show began with hometown favorite senior Madison Myrick in the long jump. Sitting in third place and after an eye-opening foul on the previous attempt, she unleashed a state and personal best of 19'2" for the walk-off win to the crowd's joy. Myrick then took her act to the high jump where she put the field away early en route to another state best mark (5'7).

The best race on the track was the 60m Hurdles featuring defending state champion junior Kaylah McCall of Homewood-Flossmoor and Bolingbrook senior Kayla Walters, both of whom been dominating the hurdle competition leading up to the meet. Both got out well and evenly battled until McCall clipped the final barrier, the result equated to a Walters win and a new state best time (8.60), McCall produced the second fastest time in the state (8.61)

Homewood-Flossmoor has produced fast sprint relays in the early part of the season, their showcase was an opportunity to do it again on the big stage in which they rolled the competition. The 4x200 relay race was tight through the first two legs between the Vikings and Bolingbrook, things changed when senior Trelyn Newkirk took the stick and open the race up and handed off to anchor Akela White who closed the deal on another state leading time despite some interesting handoffs. The "showstopper" also known as the 4x4 turned into a route, the Viking team lead off by 400m ace junior Ashanti Denton wasted no time putting the field to bed in a state's best 4:00.86 which better their best time from 2018 one month early.
