4x400m-
2018 State Champion: New Lenox ([Providence Catholic]) (Jerrell Wright, Eduardo Favela, Caden Kalinowski, Gavin Jamie) 3:19.28
Key Teams: Woodstock North, Rantoul, LaSalle-Peru, Eureka, Thornridge, East St. Louis Sr., Rockford Christian, Waterloo, Cahokia
Breakdown: The truth is... Providence Catholic ran the fastest time in Illinois in winning their portion of the state championship. Those were the good times. Now with three legs graduated, lead off leg junior Jerrell Wright is free to explore individual opportunities...
This may be the best relay event this year for the classification as three great teams look to be above the rest. Eureka is only lost one member from their speed 3:21.91 squad that took 3rd place at the state meet last year. The Hornets are returning arguably their three best members in Micah Senior, Connor Standish, and Aden Sears; all three athletes went sub 52 in the open 400m last and as of now will look to add 53.33 performer Eli Steinbeck to the mix.
Thornridge can very well create some excellent battles with the best of them as they return all four members of the state qualifying 4x400m team from last year. The Falcons will be anchored by one of top 400m runners in the state with Davon Bolden, but is that enough to beat East St. Louis? The Flyers have the best 4x400m history in the state of Illinois and this season will be no different. One thing in common with every one of those Flyers teams is that they have a stud anchor leg. Junior Willie Johnson is the #1 one-lap ace in the state at 47.82. He and teammates will be itching to perform on the biggest stages the entire season.
