It was one of the most anticipated meets of the season right out of the gate. The 2013 state champion Hinsdale Central wanted to prove they were still an elite squad despite losing four of their top seven to graduation. The Red Devils wanted to prove they had depth and reloading was just a term that great teams used to prove a point. As it would turn out, there was not any threat from #2 Neuqua Valley or anyone else in the field. The decisive 21-second split was all that was needed in compiling a scant 86 points.
McHenry senior Jesse Reiser dueled with Downers Grove North's Ryan Clevenger for 2.5 miles before pulling away for the win in 14:20. Clevenger ran 14:32- 12 seconds clear of the chasing pack. Overall, it was a great insight into how deep Illinois cross country is at the top end.
