Opening thoughts:

Cross Country is a lot like school when you think about it. It is a sport that starts at the beginning of the academic calendar and it offers everyone a fresh start to ultimately obtain goals they set for themselves.

Cross Country is a season that falls in line with school in that it could last into December if you run nationals. But most teams and individuals will finish by the end of October or beginning of November. So it is safe to say the quarter point of the season would be the third week of competition. Thus, this weekend could be termed "the mid-term" and it is crucial for coaches and athletes to get a fair assessment on where they fit in. After this weekend there will be only two quality weeks of top notched racing before conference and the state series begin.

In last weekend's first Detweiller invite the course was destroyed as a result of rain followed by heavy foot traffic. While it was a relatively dry and above average week in terms of climes, it did rain leading up to race day. According to Accuweather it is supposed to drop some more moisture on Saturday. Let's just hope the course conditions are well enough to produce some great times and efforts.
