The US#2/IL#1 Orland Park (Sandburg) squad was probably glad to get out of LaGrange intact. They needed every bit of teamwork in defeating host #4 Lyons Township. Vince Zona (Jr.) and his Lions teammate Connor Madell (Sr.) go 1-2 to put pressure on the team running Eagles. Max Lehnhardt (Sr.) gets third for Sandburg starting a 17 second split propelling his team to victory 36-37. Sandburg coach John O'Malley does not make any excuses for his team's lack of domination, but simply says, "LT is for real." Enough said.

Unranked Glenbrook South fans were not happy about being left out of the pre-season preview talk. Instead of complaining about it they went to work in their first invitational of the season. The Titans went to work and put its five scorers in the top 35 and edged a win against #21 Downers Grove South 96-99. Sophomore Emily Noone led her team with an 11th place finish. Individually, Prospect junior Brooke Wilson won the title in 17:27- 35 seconds ahead of junior Emily Steigmeier of Elk Grove. Wilson took command of the race right way with splits of 5:46 and 11:35.

#8 Oak Park-River Forest appears to be headed in the right direction after a few down seasons. The Huskies won the team title easily with 54 points. Hoffman Estates finished ahead of their conference foe Buffalo Grove to take second with 103 pts. Buffalo Grove was without #1 man senior Kevin Salvano who was on a college visit. No matter though, the smooth running front runner Irvin Loud did what he always does: lead. Loud opened up a solid lead the first mile and increased it to over 10 seconds by the second mile in 9:56. The final time was a solid 14:52 and way ahead of Vernon Hills junior Shane Williamson who clocked 15:20.
