In Her Own Words: Skyler Bollinger - The Time Has Finally Come

Well its finally here ladies and gentlemen… the culmination of a five month endeavor will finally be concluded this Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Yes that’s right, IT IS STATE TIME! State is so much more than just a race, it’s basically a week of fun. You start getting really unbearably excited around Monday, when you get the weekend itinerary, and it doesn’t wear down for at least a week. There are so many team traditions and rituals that come up around state time too.  For example, our team always dresses up on Friday before we leave.  Thankfully we leave at 9a.m. (I’m more of a sweatshirt sweatpants person).  Then we all head off for Detweiller to do a course run through and cheer on our teammates running the alternate race. Friday night is like a big team sleepover, we all have roommates and my roommate for the second year in a row is Erin Reynolds.  I would just like to say that we will have the coolest matching P.J.s of everyone there! Our state team this year consists of 13 girls and 13 boys and I am so proud of all of them. I can’t wait to see what great things they will do this weekend. They have all worked their butts off all season and I know they will do amazing! Despite all the fun and excitement, the key to state is to try to keep everything as normal as possible though. We treat it like a normal race. If you get too caught up in everything, you’ll go out to hard and it won’t end well.

Although I am beyond excited for state, it is still sort of a bittersweet weekend. I mean cross country is ending! Who could be happy about that?  And this is also the last state meet I will run with my best friends and seniors this year, Kelsey Leedy and Kaelyn Scull. I’m going to miss them sooooo much next year but I know they will go on to do amazing things in college. and they’re coming back every weekend to visit, because I told them they have to. So to Kelsey and Kaelyn, I LOVE YOU!

That’s all for now and GO FOXES!!!
