Week Two Ranked Teams Recap

1) O’Fallon- The state’s top ranked squad took the short trip across the Mississippi river into St. Louis for the 8th Annual Forrest Park Cross Country Festival.  Superstar senior Patrick Perrier stole the show in record breaking fashion pulling away late against a stellar 5k field to win in a US#1 15:03.  His teammates stepped up as well defeating one of Missouri’s top teams Rock Bridge 125-157.  Junior Dorrian Gordon placed 7th and Steve Chorma (Sr.) checked in at the 18th position.  The Panthers rested key scorers Evan Koester (Sr.) and Brennan Wesslund (Sr.); next up is the battle against #1 York at the Peoria Notre Dame Richard Spring Invitational on 9/21.

2) Elmhurst (York)-IDLE; The Dukesters will open their 2013 campaign on 9/19 @ Glenbard W vs. GW and Proviso West; @ Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

3) Hinsdale Central- The Red Devils completely dominated the deep 3A competition at the First To The Finish Invitational held at historic Detweiller Park.  Central scored 60 points to triple up Buffalo Grove (183). HC looked like they were in mid-season form as they put three runners in the top seven led by senior Billy Magnesen who placed second to Fisher’s Calvin Kraft.  Kraft edged Magnesen 14:36.22-14:36.86.  Also, freshman Blake Everett made his first varsity statement with a rocking 14:56 to take seventh; next up is dual vs. then #13 Lyons Twp on 9/19 and Downers Grove South Invite on 9/21.

4) Downers Grove North-The Trojans placed third at FTTF scoring 192 pts.  Seniors Ryan Clevenger and Zach Smith ran to third and fourth places to lead the team cause; next up is the Minooka Flight Invite on 9/21.

5) Arlington Heights (Hersey)- The Huskies cruised to victory over Mt. Prospect (Prospect) 20-38 on 9/12.  David Rodriguez (Jr.) won in 15:54 to lead a 1,2,4,6 team charge; next up is Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

6) Winnetka (New Trier)- IDLE this past week; next competition is Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

7) Wheaton-Warrenville South- The Tigers put three runners in the top five places in at the Wauconda Invite scoring 53 pts to place second in final team standings.  Nolan McKenna (Sr.)-2nd, Luke Schroer (Sr.)-4th, and Kyle Cepeda (Jr.) led the way; next up is PND Invite on 9/21.

8) Naperville (Neuqua Valley)- Nick Bushelle (Sr.) leads his team with a sixth place finish in 14:51.  The Wildcats also placed sixth as a team with 246 pts; next on the agenda is Locktoberfest on 10/5.

9) Naperville North- The Huskies placed 9th at the FTTF Invite scoring 322 pts. Jon Klaiber led the way in 51st place.  The scoring pack was 11 seconds; next up is Locktoberfest on10/5.

10) Palatine- The Pirates defeated Barrington 22-35 in MSL dual meet action at Deer Grove East Forest Preserve. Graham Brown (Jr.) led the way in 14:55 over the three-mile course; next is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

11) New Lenox (Lincoln-Way Central)- The Knights put together their best performance to date when they placed fifth at FTTF logging 225 pts.  All seven scorers cracked the 100 placement mark including three in the top 50.  Senior captain Chris Kaminski led the way in 12th with a personal best15:09; next is Edwardsville Invite on 9/21.

12) Orland Park (Sandburg)- The Eagles cruised to victory at the Reavis Invitational scoring 59 pts. Will Becker (Sr.) led his team in fifth place followed by Max Lehnhardt (So.) who earned seventh; next is Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

13) LaGrange (Lyons Twp.)- The Lions traveled to Peoria to participate in the FTTF Invite and came away with a seventh place finish.  Lyons scored 271 pts and led by senior Ed McCarter’s 15:17 clocking; @ then #3 Hinsdale Central on 9/19 and @ Minooka Flight Invitational on 9/21.

14) Chicago Lane Tech-The Indians won the Wauconda Invite scoring 47pts behind deft pack running.  Lane ran its scoring five within a 12-second span to capture its first invite title.  Senior David Schmieg led the way in 7th place followed by Pavlo Hutsalyuk (Jr.)-8th, Jon Vara (Sr.)-9th, Oswaldo Lorenzana (Sr.)-11th and Christian Badillo (Jr.)-12th; next up is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

15) Roselle (Lake Park)-The Lancers won their Harvey Braus Lake Park Invite by upending St. Charles East 59-67.   Lake Park won the title with a sweet 37-second scoring split as all seven runners placed in the top 40. Senior Jeremy Lozano led the way in 5th; next up is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

16) Barrington-The Broncos traveled mid-week to Palatine and lost 35-22.  Jake Herb (Sr.) was the team’s lone star running 15:05 and taking second; next up is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

17) Chicago (St. Ignatius)-The Wolfpack put together a solid team effort and earned fourth overall at FTTF.  Sophomore sensation Daniel Santino appears to be walking well in the big shoes that 2012 state champion Jack Keelan left him.  Santino led his team with a 10th finish in 15:00; hosting the St. Ignatius Invite on 9/21.

18) Edwardsville- The Tigers paid a heavy toll in the overall FTTF team points standing (14th) when the fourth and fifth scoring spots netted 151st and 152nd places. Brydon Groves-Scott (Jr.) was a shining star in 16th place; The Tigers will host the Edwardsville Invite on 9/21.

19) Buffalo Grove-The Bison’s bounced back from a tough effort last week at Fenton Early Bird to take second at FTTF with 183 pts. Kevin Salvano (So.), the younger brother of senior star Steven, had a breakout race popping 15:00 and placing ninth overall.  Steven, who was under the weather, still churned out a respectable 14th place and running 15:10; vs. Prospect dual on 9/19.

20) Plainfield South- The Cougars finished second to Chicago Jones at the Joliet Invitational scoring 81 pts.  Dan Lathrop (Sr.) won the individual easily in 15:06; next up on the schedule is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

21) Wilmette (Loyola Academy)- The Ramblers blitzed their way to victory at the Gordon Tech Invite scoring a perfect 15 pts. Matthew Randolph (Sr.) led the charge in 15:29; next up is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

22) Naperville Central-The Hawks either didn’t have a good effort or someone crucial was missing from the line-up.  Naperville Central placed 21st logging 587 pts.

23) Algonquin (Jacobs)- The Golden Eagles placed 18th at FTTF scoring 533 pts; next is the Kaneland Invite on 9/21.

24) Palatine (Fremd)- The Vikings placed 16th at FTTF scoring 449 pts; Harry Winter (Sr.) led the way in 22nd place; next is the Libertyville Invite on 9/21.

25) Highland Park- IDLE during the past week; next is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.

Week Two Ranked Teams Recap
 

1) Naperville North- Coach Dan Iverson’s bunch proved why they are the undisputed #1 team in the state at this moment after producing one of the most dominating in recent history by placing all seven runners in the top 25 scoring ledger. The Huskies averaged 17:45 per girl.  Enough said; IDLE this week.

2) Palatine- IDLE from invitational competition the past week; Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21 is next.

3) Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West)-Superstar Madeline Perez (Sr.) sits out another meet but it didn’t matter much as the Lady Hilltoppers steamrolled the competition at the Harvey Braus Lake Park Invitational.  Sophomore Lindsay Graham won easily in 17:08 and her scoring teammates crossed the finish line in 3rd, 7th, 13th, and 21st places to tally 45 points.  The average per woman time was 17:50 further proving how dominate Glenbard West was.  Runner-up St. Charles North scored 114 pts; next is PND on 9/21.

4) O’Fallon- The Panthers placed fourth at the Forest Park Invite in St. Louis, MO. Sydney Neal led her team with a 29th place finish.  O’Fallon may have been looking ahead to Notre Dame Invite that is looming; next is PND on 9/21.

5) Naperville Central- The Hawks continued to impress on the young season with a solid third place finish at FTTF.  Aside from great pack running, Naperville Central may be developing several bonafide front runners in Maggie McClowry and Rachel Hoffman- both girls placed 9th and 12th;

6) Winnetka (New Trier)- IDLE; PND Invite on 9/21.

7) Downers Grove South- IDLE from invitational competition this past week; next is Mustang Invite on 9/21.

8) Hoffman Estates- The Hawks took third at the Lake Park Invite with 115 pts.  All five Hawk runners placed in the top 40 led by senior Solome Haile’s ninth place; next up is Minooka Invite on 9/21.

9) Hinsdale Central- The Devilettes loaded their team for the first time this season and was rewarded with tremendous second place finish at FTTF.  Once again freshman Alexa Haffe stood tall in a deep and talented field with her second place; next is Minooka Invite on 9/21.

10) LaGrange (Lyons Twp.)- The Lady Lions placed 8th in the FTTF Invite standings scoring 208 pts. Lexy Rudolph led her team in 17th place; Argo Invite on 9/21.

11) Minooka- The Indians placed 7th in FTTF Invite with 207 pts.  Caleigh Beverly, Morgan Crouch, and Ashley Tutt strutted across the finish line 28-30 places; Minooka Invite on 9/21.

12) St. Charles North- The North Stars held off several teams to take second place at the Harvey Braus Lake Park Invite scoring 114 points. Ashley England (Sr.) took fifth place in 17:41. Kaylee Wessel (Sr.) and Nina Olshever (So.) added their team’s cause with 19th and 20th places; next up is PND on 9/21.

13) Geneva-The Vikings took 9th at FTTF with 239 points.  Although they put three girls in the top 25 led by McKenzie Altmayer’s 14th place, the Vikings have yet to click as a full time this season; Kaneland Invite on 9/21.

14) Park Ridge (Maine South)- The Hawks placed 7th at the Lake Park Invite scoring 164 pts.  Emily Leonard (Sr.) kicked off her season with a sixth place effort.  The issue with Maine South was the scoring split of 2:08.  If the Hawks hope to become a player on the state level, they will need to prove on their gap between Leonard and the #5 position; PND Invite on 9/21 is next.

15) Algonquin (Jacobs)- The Golden Eagles slipped to 11th place at the FTTF scoring 253 pts.  Lauren VanVlierbergen (Jr.) led her team with a 3rd place effort in 17:07.  However, her freshman sister Kathryn slipped to 60th in the race; Kaneland Invite on 9/21 is next.

16) Orland Park (Sandburg)- ; next is PND on 9/21.

17) Lockport- The Lady Porters took 6th place with 203 pts at the FTTF Invite.  Morgan Bollinger led her team in 24th place; Libertyville Invite on 9/21 is next.                                                        

18) Schaumburg- The Lady Saxons ran well in their first invitational of the season with a solid fourth place finish with 118 pts at Lake Park.  Schaumburg actually had the second best scoring per woman average (18:30).  Caroline Kurdei (Jr.) and Ali Gut (Jr.) placed 11th and 12th respectively for their team; PND is next on 9/21.

19) St. Charles East- The Saints placed 10th (262pts) on the strength of junior Torree Scull’s  runner-up finish at Lake Park Invite; PND on 9/21 is next.

20) Oak Park-River Forest- The revamped Huskies led by freshman Mary Blankemeier easily won the Royal Cadet Invite hosted by Marmion Academy scoring 27 pts.  The Huskies put four girls in the top six and five in the top 15 sealed the deal; PND on 9/21 is next.

21) Naperville (Neuqua Valley)- Oak Park Fenwick’s Olivia Ryan (Jr.) dominated the race winning in 17:41, but it was the Wildcats that won the war with 49 pts. Claire Costelloe led her team in second place; PND Invite is next on 9/21.

22) Downers Grove North- The Trojans placed fifth at the Lake Park Invite scoring 146 pts. Downers North had two girls in the top 15 lead their cause.  Grace Maletich (So.) and Kaitlyn Bonfield (So.) checked in at 10th and 15th spots; PND is next on 9/21.

23) Barrington-.The Fillies traveled to Peoria and placed 5th in the FTTF Invite with 195 pts.  The improvement was significant in that Caroline Reynolds (Sr.) broke out without teammate Lauren Conroy (So.) in tow. Reynolds placed 10th and Conroy was 33rd; PND on 9/21.

24) Wheaton-Warrenville South- The young Tigerettes continue to show solid improvement.  This time they placed 4th at the FTTF Invite scoring 186 pts and beating a ton of solid teams.  Junior Katie Popejoy placed 25th to lead their team.  The 1-5 split was 28 seconds; Minooka Invite on 9/21

25. Elmhurst (York)- IDLE from invitational competition the past week; next is the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on 9/21.
