Salute To Seniors: Malik Lee - Brooks College Prep

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race would definitely have to be the 800m at state this year. I reached my goal time and it's what I've been training all year for.I thought I wouldn't place as well as I did, but I'm really happy that I was able to come in second. On top of all that, it was the the day of my prom which made it even more memorable.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My main competition over the past four years has beenDarren Payton.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was placing second in state.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

f I could have done it all overa gain I would've gotten serious about track earlier in my high school career and I would've built a bigger/stronger running base.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The hardest obstacles I had to overcome would be getting over mental fatigue when training, as well as; balancing school, track, and a social life.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss competing with my teammates and training at my school. These years that I've spent with them have made us grow into our own family and I can't imagine what it'll be like without them.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

The best advice I could give younger athletes is that being successful takes hard work and dedication. It may be cliche but it is definitely true. There is always someone working harder than you or even one step ahead of you, so always remember to put your best efforts forth in every training session and every competition.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

He really introduced me to track and the lifestyle that comes with it. He helped my performance get better by taking me to club track and training me on the weekends as well as on weeknights. I'm really grateful for him. He's taught me that big dreams can be accomplished through hard work. He also taught to always set realistic goals and to also have backup plans.

What are your college plans?

I plan to attend the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign in the fall of 2013 where I will continue my track career. I want to pursue a major in business management.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my mom, my girlfriend, my coach (Coach D and Coach K), and everyone that supported me in my high school track career!
