New State Reocrd!: In Her Own Words: Sarah Bell

So it's been a busy couple of days. Last Wednesday I had a meet at Illinois Wesleyan where I ran in the 4x200 and I pole vaulted. I anchored the 4x200 and I felt like I ran a pretty good leg but I got spiked in the knee when I was passing a girl. After my race I was not feeling very well because I was very light headed and dizzy for some reason. When I was done I went back over to pole vault so I could enter the competition, but I was contemplating whether to jump or not because of my dizziness. I ended up just sticking it out and jumping from my short approach and clearing 12'6 with a lot of hip height on it. So even though it wasn't my best day, I was still happy with my results.

Friday was my first good workout on the track. I had previously just worked out in the hallways of the school so it felt really good being on the track again. It reminded me how much I love outdoor season and how excited I am for the upcoming season.

On Saturday, I went to the Gene Armer Meet in Champaign with two of our high jumpers, while the others girls had the day off and our boys team was in Charleston. I was very excited for this meet because I had been waiting for everything to come together so I could reach an indoor PR. I felt good and I was able to hang out with many of my friends from the Flying Dragons Pole Vault Club. I got back to my eight left approach and jumped on one of my brand new poles. I jumped 13'1 1/2 (4 meters) which captured the new meet record, school indoor record, and my new indoor pr. My previous indoor PR was 13 1/4 which I jumped at last year's Prep Top Times. I was very happy that I was finally able to get a PR because I knew it was coming, it just had to all come together at a meet. My four meter jump also tied the Illinois state indoor record which is always very exciting!  I would like to give a shout out to Adam Coulon who jumped 15'6 1/2 and achieved the freshman national indoor record.

Monday, I had another meet at Illinois Wesleyan where I was scheduled to jump and run the 4x200 and 4x400. Unfortunately my legs were very tight from Saturdays meet and I was not able to run the two relays. I always hate dropping out because I never want to let my teammates down but injuries are never a good thing. After about an hour and a half of rolling out my legs and stretching them out, I did jump and came in at 11'6 on my short run. Even though my legs were hurting, I was able to get on my 13'6 poles from my short approach and jump 13'2. Being in the condition I was, I was very ecstatic to be able to jump another indoor PR. I now hold the Illinois state indoor record and our new school record. With tight legs and short approaches today jumping a new indoor PR, I am beyond excited for what I can do on Saturday with fresh legs and my eight left approach on bigger poles. I do want to give another shout out to our girls 4x400 team for achieving a new school indoor record. I am sad I could not contribute and run with them, but I am so proud of what they have achieved this indoor season.

Now I have Saturday, Illinois Top Times, to look forward to and I hope that only more good things to come!
