Scouting Report: Glenbard South Boys

Glenbard South looks to improve on their runner-up finish in 2011 at the Illinois Cross Country Championships. The Raiders finished just 18 points behind Belvidere North. They return five of their top seven runners from last year's team and should be pretty strong again in 2012. Coach Doug Gorski's squad is led by a pair of juniors in John Wold and Joe Singleton. Wold finished 4th at state meet, but missed a few weeks of summer training due to traveling with his family. Gorski says when he returned you could still tell he was training and is mentally tough, and does not like to lose. Singleton will also be up there in the top of this rotation after finishing 11th at state lsat year. He attended the Wisconsin Cross Country Camp over the summer where was one of the top performers. Gorski says that Singleton is stronger and more confident than ever and should have a great year. Rounding out the roster will be seniors Mark Cizek, Eric Greenwell, and fifth man of the year Tommy Stoffels. Coach Gorski also expects great things out of sophomore Colin Meade who didn't miss a day of summer training and has been running well.

So far in the young 2012 cross country season, Wold has yet to run, but Singleton has looked impressive early. In their first meet at the St. Charles East Levy Invitational, Singleton clocked a very impressive 14:41 on the three mile course to finish second. Mark Cizek was the next highest Raider in 38th, but the team finished a disappointing  12th out of fifteen teams. The second meet of the season showed consistency for Singleton and improvement for the team. Singleton finished again in second behind Riley McInerney in a time of 15:07, while the Raiders finished fifth in the team standings.

No Wold early on has left the team with some holes to fill and hasn't let them see their full potential. However, it is going to be a tough rode to the top of the podium with teams like Jones, Belvidere North, and Yorkville, in their way.

Coach Gorski Says...

"Our goals as a team are to win conference again and to contend for a state trophy in November."
