Summary: We said this with the 3A girls last week, and we'll repeat it now... objects are closer than they appear. We see what the data says; we know some coaches and athletes will question this week's rankings... we don't blame you. That is because we also said over the past two weeks that 3A Boys is a mess.
Out of the sectional, it got messier as some top athletes and relays did not advance to state for a variety of reasons, opening the door to more teams. Every team listed in this top ten has a shot to acquire one of three trophies, as most can improve their stock from the sectional (baton mishaps, cold, windy conditions, injury, or athlete unavailability).
No one can predict how things will unfold this Friday and Saturday, but we know a shakeup can and likely will happen, as many of these teams have a slim margin of error. Nobody's lead is safe. We hope everyone enters Friday prelims happy and healthy. We will see you in Charleston.
