The Chicago Public League is one of the conference finals that presented some great action

Last week was all about the conference championships. We were able to capture many meets across the state!

Saturday, 10/19 

Boys: 1A #8 Peoria Notre Dame essentially competed on their home course at Detweiller Park. The Irish used a strong second-place finish by sophomore Max Kirby, who ran 14:58. The rest of the scoring five bunch were in the top 15 to score 42 points for the team title. Champaign Central junior Caleb Mathias took the gold medal with a time of 14:49.

Girls: Normal West junior Renee Warren runs a season best 17:43 to win her first conference crown. The Wildcats responded to Warren's effort by taking the title with 37 points, 21 better than Peoria Notre Dame.

Boys: Nicolai Martino (Sr., Winnebago) competed in a tight tilt but ran 14:02 over the 2.85-mile Fuller Park course in Rockford. 2A #4 Dixon did not waste any time in earning the victory. The Dukes scored 37 points (3+5+6+10+13 (18+27) ahead of #4 1A Winnebago's 67 tally.

Girls: Abagail Baumann(Jr., Rockford Lutheran) just missed finishing under 17:00 for the 2.85-mile distance with a time of 17:00.25. 1A #7 Winnebago was the easy winner in the team ledger, scoring 38 points. 

Boys: 1A #21 Roxana is a three-point winner in the Mississippi River Division w/47 points

CCL / GCAC Championships

Boys: 2A #7 Chicago St. Ignatius gets by #8 Marmion Academy 66-68 in a merge between the two divisions. Gavin O'Connor (Sr., Chicago Brother Rice) took the individual title in 15:06.

Girls: Annika Swan (Jr., St. Ignatius) cruised to victory in 17:04; the 2A #1 Wolfpack won the merged title over 2A#3 Depaul College Prep 46-68.

Boys: 2A #1 Payton won their first team title over 3A #19 Lane Tech 29-45; Payton junior Tra'Monti Williams won the school's first individual crown with a time of 15:18

Girls: #20 Lane Tech defends their title with ease, scoring 20 points; LuLu Ton-That (Sr., Northside Prep) defended her crown with a time of 18:27.

Girls: Addie Painter (So., Wheaton Academy) leads her 2A #24 ranked squad to a team win, clocking 18:36. 

Boys: Sean Kaeb (Jr., Normal University) won the individual title in 15:58, and that effort propelled 2A #6 Pioneers to a 46-46 tie over #17 Chatham-Glenwood. U High was awarded the title via tiebreaker.

Girls: 2A #2 Chatham-Glenwood go 1-2 on the strength of Ali Londrigan (So) and Ashley Chopra (Jr) 18:15 & 18:32 en route to a 24-point production.

Boys: Ben Crane (senior, New Trier) and Evan Parker (senior, Niles North) are victors in their conference meets' south and north divisions. Crane wins the south in a state-leading 14:15 on the ultra-fast Deerfield HS course. His #12 Trevians teammates helped him win the team title with 25 points. Parker runs 14:27 for the north crown, and Highland Park is the team victor, scoring 39 points.

Girls: Estella Ollinger (So. Vernon Hills) runs to the individual title in 18:42; Vernon Hills tallies 25 points to win the north. Over in the south, the times are faster as Stella Davis (Sr., Evanston) rolls a 17:20. Glenbrook North defeats a good field by scoring 52 points.

Boys: Francesco Benelli (Sr., Batavia) continues his extraordinary senior campaign, winning his first title in 14:42 at Lake Park HS, the future home of his sectional. His #7 Bulldogs defeated Wheaton-Warrenville South 60-78 for the win.

Girls: Avery Hacker (So., Batavia) takes down the field for her first title in 17:24. The #5 Lady Bulldogs are easy winners over WWS 30-60.

Boys: Jacob Barraza (Sr., Batavia) wins his first conference title in 14:56. #16 Neuqua Valley wins another team title, escaping by five points over Naperville North 44-49.

Girls: Emma Berres (Sr., Naperville North) leads a 1,2,3 sweep in 17:46, and her #7 Huskies have no match in winning with 21 points.

Boys: Finn Richards (Sr., Benet Academy) drops another sub 15:00 clocking, winning by nearly 40 seconds in 14:51. The Redwings score 42 points for the title.

Girls: Izzy Bing (Sr., Carmel Catholic) pulls the upset over Delilah Helenhouse (Sr., Benet Academy) by 16 seconds in 17:50. Carmel gets the team win by nine points over St. Viator 50-58.

Boys: Tommy Nitz (Sr., Huntley) gets past a tough Jameson Tenopir (Jr., Cary-Grove) in 15:23. 2A #12 Crystal Lake Central defeats Huntley 78-87.

Girls: Isabella Ciesla (Jr., Huntley) wins by two seconds in 18:59;  #10 Huntley 

Boys: Tucker Hinkle (Sr., Eureka) clocks a personal best 14:59, and top-ranked 1A Hornets score 27 points for the easy victory.

Girls: Meika Bender (Sr., Eureka) runs a season-best 18:05, winning her second title in a row. The Hornets are ranked #2 in Class A but fall to #5 El Paso-Gridley 29-42. There were only three scoring teams.


Boys: In one of the most lopsided team wins of the weekend, #7 Herscher goes 1-4 and scored 16 points; Brayden Shepard of Herscher wins in 15:55.

Girls: Klarke Goranson (Fr., Manteno) won by over a one-minute plus in a personal best 17:15; #25 Herscher is the victor with 33 points.

Boys: Cuyler Sanson (So, Sycamore) continues his great sophomore season, winning in a PB 14:43; 2A #9 Kaneland wins with 32 points

Girls: 2A #18 Morris takes the title with 29 points

Boys: Ellery Shutt (Jr, Woodstock) wins by over 20 seconds in 15:22

Girls: Sunny Weber (Jr., Sandwich) cruises to victory in 17:14

Boys: Joe Bregenzer (Sr., Barrington) continues late season ride with a blistering 14:24 victory against the strongest field in the state; #6 Palatine wins a close one against cross town rival #5 Fremd 67-70.

Girls: Mia Sirois (So., Barrington) sets a league record, rocking her foes by over 20 seconds in 16:20; #2 Barrington appears to be in championship form, scoring a scant 31 points; #4 Prospect is second w/54 points.

Girls: 2A #4 Rockford Boylan put all five scorers in the top 10 and scored 23 points; Kylie Simpson (Jr., Hononegah) wins in 18:01

Boys: 2A #13 Lakes survives scare vs unranked Grant 34-38; Max Haas (Jr., Grant) is conference champ in 15:39

Girls: 2A #7 Grayslake Central score 38 points for the win; 

Boys: #11 Lake Zurich produces an amazing 14:55 scoring average led by freshman star Karanveer Patil, who ran 14:36. LZ scored 23 points.

Girls: Avery Muhr (So., Lake Zurich) clocks a PB 17:46 and won her first title; #15 Lake Zurich wins w/31 points

Boys: Braden Hoff (Sr., Lincoln-Way Central) takes the individual crown in 15:02; #8 Sandburg gets past #10 LWC 51-54

Girls: Freshman Eliana Kaitei of Lincoln-Way East continues to improve and wins the individual title in 18:24; unranked Lockport pulls off the surprise, tallying 36 points.

Boys: Thomas Jochum (So., Glenbard South) improves from fifth to the winner's circle, running 15:14. Aurora West takes the title with 76 points.

Boys: The top ranked Downers Grove North Trojans take the first three spots, led by Phil Cupial (Jr) who ran 14:38; the Trojans put five runners among the top 11 and scored 26 points.

Girls: Karlin Janowski continues her great freshman season for York, winning the title in 17:22. #1 DGN easily topples #3 York 22-41 for the crown.


Friday, October 18 

Boys: The meet was held at Detweiller Park and 2A #2 Morton won the title with 28 points; Christian Harris of Morton ran a PB 14:52 for the victory.

Girls: 2A #8 Washington scored 44 points; Avery Braker (Sr., Morton) wins in 18:04 

Boys: #2 Plainfield North escapes past #4 Plainfield South 31-35; Dylan Maloney (Sr., Plainfield South) rolls a 20 sec plus win in 14:27

Girls: Maya Ledesma (Sr., Minooka) wins easy in 17:03; #6 Minooka scores 33 points for the title


Thursday, October 17 


Boys: 1A #10 Clinton takes the team title with 33 points (three teams); David Hornaday (Sr., Tuscola) wins in 16:00

Girls: Kate Foltz (Jr., Tuscola) wins against a small field in 16:59
