Outlook: Make no mistake; the Downers Grove North camp knows there are hungry lions in the midst, waiting for an opportunity to take what's theirs. It will be a battle to the last young man, the Trojan men way, and beating them will be incredibly tough. There was significant graduation, including Ryan Eddington (now at U of Missouri), but the cupboard is far from empty. State 1600m champion Phil Cupial leads three returners under 15:00, followed by two more under 15:40.
"We have had a good summer of training and a good summer of team culture building," said coach John Sipple honestly. "This group has a good mix of returning experience and a bunch of guys who will be new to the varsity level." Like other legendary programs of the past (York, Schaumburg, Neuqua Valley), the Trojans continue to reload every year. "The young group (freshmen and sophomores) are continuing to make good progress and learn the sport, and the team as a whole is learning what it means to be a good teammate," added Sipple. The Trojans will find it hard to be kicked off the top of Mt. Everest.
