The invite named for the great living legend Bruce Ritter, who helped usher girls' athletics into the modern era in the 1970s, will be good on a crisp Friday evening at Carstens Field.
The evening will kick off with the 4x800 relay with distance powers Prospect, York, Downers Grove North, and Glenbard West looking to reset the state leaderboards. Don't be surprised if one or all of them crack into the 9:20s.
Distance angle-
Veronica Znajda (Jr., Prospect) is in the 3200m and ready to run her seed time of 10:39.
Ava Gilley (Jr., DGN) had a terrific indoor season in the middle-distance races. She will face a strong field that features Meg Peterson (So., Prospect), Liv Phillips (Sr., Naperville Central), and Janellisa Oceguera (Sr., Joliet West). Gilley leads the way with a 2:13, but Peterson is quite capable of matching that.
Sprints-
Elaine Paul (Sr., York), Charlotte Price (Sr., Chicago Lane), and Morgan Navarre (So., York) are names that will be battling in the 100, 200, and 400. They will be fighting for gold medals and an opportunity to get into the top tier of the state leaderboards.
Watch for Aisha Kazeem (Jr., Palatine) in the hurdle races. She was an all state performer last spring.
