Chicago IL- The first official IHSA-sponsored school invitational of the 2024 season took place, and the proverbial "fire marshall" had to be called to the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center. It was, by the way, the scene of the 3rd Annual Dr. Conrad Worrill Invitational hosted by Kenwood High School.

Speaking of Kenwood... the emergence of Kee'lani Whitlock was about to unfold. The junior speedster from Chicago Kenwood enjoyed a nice preseason in which she produced several personal best efforts for the 60-meter dashes that reached the 7.70s.

Whitlock cruised in her prelim with a PB of 7.75 but trailed the overall leader, Angelena Bullocks (Jr., Chicago Whitney Young), who ran 7.73.

The final was ready to set the building on fire.

The final featured Zawadi Brown (Sr., Naperville Neuqua Valley), Jordan Hamb (So., Chicago South Shore International Prep), and Symone Frison (Sr., Chicago Lindblom).

The gun went off on cue, and all starters were out of their blocks clean, and it was a fair start. Brown and Bullocks had the jump on the field.

But hold up!

Whitlock's momentum at 30m slingshot her into the lead, and she ran away to a blistering win and met a record- IL#1 7.54!

The buzz afterward was heard around the building and most likely around the state. Undercover track and field will be exciting in Illinois over the next several months.
