3A Preseason Preview: Downers Grove North Boys Billed #1

Downers Grove North boys are vying for greatness this fall

=================

Head Coach/Coaches: John Sipple / Jillian Russell, Eric Buhot, Andrew Adelmann, Alexa Harris, Josh Williams, Ethan Wood, Robby Prescott
Last Year's Finish: IHSA 3A State- 3rd place, NXN- 11th place
Outlook: This could potentially be the best team that Downers Grove North has produced with a flurry of talent returning for the Trojans.

Returning up front are their top two finishers from 2022, Ryan Eddington and Caden Weber. The duo took 13th and 14th and will look to both be top 10 finishers come November. Eddington will be making a push at the State Championship after a breakout track season where he went 1:52.84 in the 800m and 4:07.91 in the 1600m.

Zach Bender, Grant Schroder, and Brady Travers. This is an experienced group with Bender and Schroder being a part of the group that made the trip out to Portland last December.

Travers is the new kid on the block after a great track season saw him run 9:33.90 in the 3200 and qualify for the state meet. No other team can say that their potential 5th man is a state qualifier in an individual event at the track state meet.

Phillip Cupial was the 2021 IESA 3A State Champion. He progressed well over his freshman year track season as he ran 1:59 and 4:28. He may make a push. A lot of talent here as the Trojans return ten kids under 4:33 in the 1600m and eight kids sub 10:00 in the 3200m. Anyone of those athletes could fill into those final varsity spots.

Coach Sipple stated, "This season is going to be a lot of fun. We have an array of possibilities for our top group of guys and such an array of experiences that it is going to be fun watching these guys grow in so many areas as the season progresses. Our team continues to grow, we currently have 71 guys on the roster, and this will create challenges for the coaching staff but will provide an opportunity for returners to lead and help our younger runners learn what it means to be a part of the team and program here at DGN."
