We rank the top 300 returning sophomore cross country runners that participated during the 2022 season as freshmen.

There were a total of nine freshmen that competed in the state championship, Plainfield North and O'Fallon leading the charge with two entrants.

Palatine HS enjoyed a resurgence in 2022 and a key reason attributed to Alex Krieg. Following in the footsteps of former Pirate greats and most notably his big brother and all-stater Mason Krieg. Alex placed 86th in the 3A finals.

The top newcomer performance-wise was Owen Horeni of Yorkville who saved his best race at state, taking 51st overall.
