Chicago's very own Shamier Little from Lindblom HS on the south side of the city won her third national 400-meter hurdles title, this one in a season-best 53.34.

Little entered the final as a strong candidate to make the World Championship team alongside Dalilah Muhammad and several others.

In the race to make the Budapest, Hungary squad, Little got out smoothly and fast with a commanding presence over the first half of the race. Coming into the home straight, Little had the lead but Muhammad was gaining and appeared to have the momentum to strike for the win on the tenth and final hurdle. However, it was the perseverance of Little that enabled her to take home the gold medal.

Depending on the decision that reigning world champion and world record holder American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone decides which event to compete in, it could be Femke Bol of the Netherlands as the favorite. Regardless, Little will be in the mix and out to win her first medal since 2015.
