Prospect coach Pete Wintermute gave a hint of running his "A" 4x800m relay prior on Friday evening prior to the boys' Wanner Knights Invite. "We are going to run it at New Trier tomorrow morning," he said. "This may be the only time we can run it and I don't know if we will have another opportunity again."

Sure enough under less-than-ideal conditions at the New Trier Lady Trevian Invitational, the quartet of Meg Peterson (Fr), Hailey Erickson (Sr), Lily Ginsberg (Jr), and Cameron Kalaway (Sr) were on a solo mission.

It was a solo mission from the gun with Peterson quickly separating from the pack of competitors with an opening split of 65 seconds and bringing the baton home in 2:13.5.

Erickson ran the second leg and roared the first circuit in the same 65-second effort as her team and continued to stream forward as if she was doing a solo time trial. Erickson hit 2:17.0 and 4:30 on the composite time with two legs remaining.

Ginsberg is perhaps the team's most aggressive leg and sure enough, she hit 63.xx on the first lap. Lapped traffic would come into play but she was able to navigate it well and power home with a 2:13.7.

Experience matters on the final leg and Kalaway did her best with obstacles in the way of lapped runners impeding her ability to run in a straight line. She would not admit it but after running 66 seconds on the first 400m, it would be a problem trying to close and grab a 2:14 leg needed to break Wheaton-Warrenville South's 8:59.03 from 2012. It was a great effort with a 2:16.9 leg that netted the third fastest time in state history: 9:01.47. It is also the sixth fastest time in the country as we stand today.
