IL Contingent Is Ready To Shine At Arcadia Invite (Day 1)

======

This weekend marks the wholesale return of the biggest, brightest, full, and most talented high school track & field invitational in the United States. Its signature line reads 'home of national records' and that is not boastful when you consider that over two dozen of them have been achieved in five decades. This year's edition could see several more. Let's take a quick look at the Illinois contingent that is heading out to sunny California on April 7-8.

*Friday** (times listed in Central Time Zone)

Girls 3200-
Caroline Schoen (Sr., Homewood-Flossmoor)
-Will take her first crack at the long form race after running 10:49.74 last season. Schoen's 2022 season was cut short because of injury, but she bounced back during the indoor campaign and contributed heavily to the Vikings' success. Schoen set the school record in the 800m (2:17.47) and ran on one of the state's top 4x400 relays.

Boys 3200- (11:34p)
Akili Parekh (Sr., Chicago Latin)

-Missed the entire indoor season because of injury, but is ready to assert himself one last time before moving on to the University of Michigan. Parekh was able to get in a tune last weekend, running the 800m in 2:04.60. He indicated that he's fit and would like to challenge the 9:20 mark.
