Daniel Lacy put an exclamation point on his performances at U of I

CHAMPAIGN- There were some outstanding performances inside the University of Illinois Armory Saturday morning. But perhaps none were as impressive as Champaign Centennial senior Daniel Lacy's two sprint wins. Donning a powder blue kit (vs. his teammates flying pink), Lacy was all-business.

Lacy, who is still uncommitted in terms of college selection, lined up for his first race of the day, the 60m in the fast section four. To his right in lane five in the season's most anticipated match was the incomparable junior Jayon Morrow from Kankakee. You could cut the tension with a knife as the track barn was quiet and everyone was on their collective feet.

Morrow raises his hand before the set position. He was disturbed about something. Could it be the fire from Lacy's engine next to him? The official appeared to offer some solace before another attempt at closure. Morrow jumps the gun ahead of the starter's pistol and it was clear as day- he is gone. For the second weekend in a row, he bowed out of a race before knowing the full result.

Lacy would eventually polish off the competition several minutes later and go on to win with a personal best of 6.91. He just missed the meet record set by Josh Eiker (Galesburg) back in 2016.

Several hours later, Lacy held off Jackson Gilbert (Sr., Urbana) for the win in 21.88.

The best of the rest-

The state's top shotputter Chase Crawford (Sr., Cahokia) recently committed to the University of Missouri and to celebrate the occasion, he won the Chargers title with 59'0.75" - now a meet record on his final attempt.

Cahokia continued their field events assault by sweeping the triple jump as seniors Lorenzo-Johnson Cutler and Nicholas Deloach tallied 45-10.5 and 45-7.25 (IL#1 and #2). Sandwiched at IL#3 was Malik Allen (Jr., Edwardsville) at 45-3.75.

Deloach held on for the win in the long jump over Brody Squires (Sr., Aurora Waubonsie Valley) with a jump of 21-5.75. And Deloach again was victorious in the high jump at 6-4.

The 60H state leader Daryl Okeke (Sr., Champaign Judah Christian) won another race in 8.37 (#5 in meet history).

Morrow got a bit of revenge with a win in the 400m, cruising to victory in 50.46.
