It was smooth sailing for Josephine Dziedzic and the Walter Payton harriers at Lane Tech HS

Lane Tech HS; Chicago IL
If you were a Walter Payton College Prep HS baseball fall, you would have been thrilled with the final results of the Lane Tech vs. Taft and Payton triangular cross country meet. The Grizzlies led off with the girls winning with 28 points. The hosts Indians scored 37 to turn back Taft's 67 points. On the boys' ledger, it was Payton who roared with 24 tallies to upend Lane and Taft 31-85.
It was the season debut for all three girls teams and right away Payton junior Josephine Dziedzic took command of the sidewinding two-mile distance affair. At the first mile, Dziedzic had a two-second advantage on Lane junior Olivia Ide 6:02-6:04. The rest of the scoring pursuers were making make their rounds under 6:30. Dziedzic would open up a gap over the next half-mile and cruise to the win 12:26. Sophomore Hannah Diete of Taft motored home ahead of Ide 12:44-12:45.
The boys race played out a little differently as Lane Tech junior William Archer shot to the front and set a modest pace. With a tight pack of runners from all three schools nestled together, Archer hit the opening mile in 5:28. It appeared as though the host Indians were in control with less than a half-mile remaining, but Payton stormed home with a flurry of closing kicks, led by junior Ritvik Viniak who won in 10:51. Archer took second in 10:54.
