"He is going to be one of the best runners in the state next year, not just a top freshman," said one well-known distance running pundit. The person in question is Morton HS freshman Josh Weeks. Mr. Weeks of course was the darling of the 2019 IESA Cross Country State Championship

Weeks opened his high school career with three straight top-three finishes before exploding for a fourth place finish at the Mid-Illini Conference Championship in 15:22. In that meet, the state champion and state runner-up provided prudent big time race experience. Week's finished with the fifth fastest time in the state as a freshman but appeared to be more consistent in his performances vs. his peers. Time will tell if he is indeed the real deal on the big stage.

Weeks proved his first experience on the big stage at the Shazam Championships where he took a robust sixth place in 16:16/5k. Weeks held strong against a fleet of lions in leading his team to the title- the first "state championship" in what is expected to be a dynasty run for the young Potters.

Congrats to Josh Weeks!
