The uncertainty of the past year was especially hard for the Class of 2021 student-athletes because of Covid-19. The pandemic resulted in canceled athletic competitions, limited classroom and social time with friends, and placed a premium on selecting a college.
Coach Pierre and Tonyprepster enjoyed a visit from several of the top seniors who signed on to compete at respective schools.
Jayden Ulrich (East Alton-Wood River)- State champion shot putter who is one of the nation's elite performers in the event at 47-8i. Ulrich signed with Indiana University.
Marshall Ellis (Homewood-Flossmoor)- The speedster made waves competing as an all-state relay hand as a sophomore. Later before the shutdown, he clocked a state leader 60m in 6.89. However, it was during the summer of 2020 that Ellis balled out on the track. He burned the track with IL #1's 10.56 and 21.71. Ellis will compete for Louisana Tech University.
Brandon Battle (Edwardsville)- Coming from a well-balanced track and field program, Battle was on his way to becoming one of the state's combination sprinters when the outdoor season was cut short. Battle was able to run a state-best 400m 49.51 in an abbreviated campaign. He has signed with Eastern Illinois University.
Jasmyn Hunter (Homewood-Flossmoor)- As a key member of the Viking's powerful juggernaut, Hunter made her mark by earning all-state honors in the 100HH as a sophomore. Still, a year later amid a Covid-19 induced season, Hunter was able to forge a state-best 14.69. She recently signed with Howard University.
