Many people will not remember that Pavlenko threw in high school besides probably his teammates from his time at Hersey high school and that is because he was nothing special in high school. He never picked up an all-state honor... heck he never even qualified for state! Pavlenko really found his calling when he came to Iowa State and picked up the weight for the first time and he has rolled with it ever since. The breakout star currently is ranked 13th in the NCAA which is quiet impressive for a dude that never even qualified for his state meet.
