3A Girls Field Events Preview: The Talent Pool Is Here!

There is no one better in the discus side of things in Illinois than Jasmine Mitchell

Discus Throw-
2018 State Champion: Jasmine Mitchell (Sr., South Holland [Thornwood]) 147-8
Key Returners: Mitchell, Catie Daily (Sr., Machesney Park [Harlem]), Dior Nicholson (Jr., Hinsdale Central)  Sam Satterfield (Jr., Ottawa), Courtney Hall (Sr., Yorkville), Julie Reglewski (So., Grayslake Central), Kayla Mikottis (Jr., St. Charles North), Jill Everett (Sr., Antioch), Makiyha Blackwell (Sr., Hoffman Estates)
Outlook: Jasmine Mitchell may be at her best here when she flings the iron plate. Coming into this season, it is a formality to be a state champion or even the best across three classifications. One would assume that 149-1 and the 17th best performer in the country are not enough. Mitchell had a taste of competing in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, and despite the results not being delightful, it is assumed that additional hard work has been put in to be a bigger force. We could see a mark deep inside the 150-foot area at some point during the spring.

There is a considerable gap after Mitchell. Catie Daily will try her best to distance herself between Mitchell and the field. Daily threw over 130-feet four times last year which includes a personal best 134-11 for 4th place at state. If she can get over the 140-foot marker that would be a nice brick wall for competitors to be stopped.

Dior Nicholson is the only other returning all-state performer. She will challenge Daily for the second best thrower.
