3A Girls Field Events Preview: The Talent Pool Is Here!

Jasmine Mitchell will once again be out to prove that she is one of the elite throwers in the state

Shot Put-
2018 State Champion: Jasmine Mitchell (Sr., South Holland [Thornwood]) 45-10
Key Returners: Mitchell, Miranda Cadwell (Sr., Plainfield South), Makiyha Blackwell (Sr., Hoffman Estates), Morgan Reed (Sr., South Holland [Thornwood]), Camille Clay (So., Lincolnshire [Stevenson]), Kelise Johnson (Sr., Bloomington), Sam Satterfield (Jr., Ottawa), Stephanie Montenegro (Sr., Roselle [Lake Park]), Dior Nicholson (Jr., Hinsdale Central)
Outlook: Jasmine Mitchell has been the face of big class shot putting for two seasons now. While many have been lauding the accomplishments of KD Young and Chloe Lindeman and their pursuit of 50-feet, Mitchell has been a winner who has gotten better each term. She comes into this season as a national top 10 performers at 45-10. She is her respect has an opportunity to land in the 50-foot territory. Only Emmonnie Henderson of Edwardsville has done it on the 3A level. And it doesn't hurt to have an amazing teammate in Morgan Reed who is also a 40+ thrower.

There will be plenty of throwers chasing behind Mitchell which includes six state all-staters. Miranda Cadwell eclipsed 41-6.25 to take third place. After tasting success last year, Cadwell is looking for bigger heights. "This was an incredible experience, especially being my first time at the finals," Cadwell said. "I learned a lot by this experience and my goal is to come back and really try to win the title next year."
