Marcellus Moore Leads Explosive 3A Boys Sprints Preview

We are expecting greatness from one of the elite speedsters in our lifetime

200m-

2018 State Champion: Marcellus Moore (Plainfield North) 21.30

Key Athletes: Marcellus Moore (Jr., Plainfield North), Jermarrion Stewart (Jr., Collinsville), Joshua Bridges (Sr., Homewood-Flossmoor), Cedric Rowzee (Sr., Wheaton Warrenville South), Khullen Jefferson (Jr., Thornton Fractional South), Jason Thormo (Sr., Fox Lake [Grant]), John Bickel (Jr., Tinley Park [Andrew]), Jamal Safo (Sr., Crete-Monee), Jason Miller (Jr., Carpentersville [Dundee-Crown]), Brandan Jenkins (Jr., Belleville West)

Breakdown: Marcellus Moore is the returning state champion and one of the nation's elite sprinters. Baby Holyfield's best performance was at the Plainfield South Sectional where he ran an Illinois #2 all-time mark (20.88) for the win. As great as Moore is in the Century, this could be his future event at the next level. With exceptional speed and the willingness to work harder than anyone on the circuit, It would not be premature to assume that Moore will fly under 20.60 sometime during the late spring.

Khullen Jefferson is coming off a breakout summer season. Jefferson had a good season throughout the year, but it wasn't anything near the level that he was on over the summer. Throughout the regular season Jefferson ran a 22.30, but in the summer he exploded to a personal best time of 21.96. If he continues to drop that time like that the sky is the limit.

In what could be the final leg of his own triple crown attempt, Jermarrion Stewart will try and hold back any others shot at the crown. Stewart may have some regular season shots versus Moore to get a feel on how he plans to attack in May.

Cedric Rowzee will be looking to improve off his 7th place performance from last year and dip below 21.60 in the process.

Don't snooze on 400m champ Jason Thormo who in his only attempt in the 200m last season resulted in a sub-22-second performance (21.75) in the summer.
