Beware Track and Field 2018 Is Around The Corner!

Boys and Girls High School Track and Field 101 is simple: Be intense every time out while giving it your all on the battle field and have fun.

The 2018 season could be another bang out year from top to bottom. 2017 was one of the best in IHSA history from the outset as a number of great performances were put up. In the aftermath several long standing all time records were shattered. We saw the emergence of then freshman Marcellus Moore of Plainfield North come out of the gate and put some pressure on his elders. They were able to respond when it counted. On the girls side, we witnessed the likes of Katelynne Hart, Dajour Miles and the Martin twins Katina Martin and Tina Martin emerge from the clouds. They all will be back and better than ever this year!

The unofficial undercover season will begin with The University of Chicago Track Club hosting their annual Ted Hayden Classic on December 16. Simultaneously will be the Rockford Open held at Rockford Auburn High School. Both meets are essentially all-comers affairs that draws a ton of kids and adults alike with the competition up to par.

Later in the month of January, Texas A&M University and the University of Arkansas will follow with some intense competition that make you at times think it was championship season. A strong Illinois contingent usually partakes in the festivities down in College Station and Fayetteville.
