The Annual Midwest Prep Pilgrimage Stays True

Jaimie Robinson finishes off another long and exhausting day by winning the 200m

University of Alabama bound Jaimie Robinson leads the girls attack-

It was business as usual for the workhorse known as Jaimie Robinson. The Homewood-Flossmoor IL senior participated in another full load of events despite there being no triple jump and 4x200 relay (Indiana does not contest those events). Robinson put her 3A #2 Vikings on her back in the long jump, 100, and 200 dashes. Robinson started her day in the long jump by setting yet another meet record, breaking fellow Illinoisian Parker English's old standard of 18'6." The former Evanston standout now at Notre Dame University gave way to Robinson's 18'8.5." It wasn't too long before time elapsed and the Century arrived. There was no wind gauge present but a track and field layman could have diagnosed that a mostly strong headwind prevented some impressive marks from occurring. However, it did not take long for Robinson to assert her will on the field and eventually pull away for an easy victory in 12.24.... Robinson also won the 200 in 24.72.

In between two Robinson victories was another dominating performance by an Illinois athlete. Bloom Township senior Jelena Rowe competed in several events, but it was her signature high jump that stood out the most. The nation's top leader continued her dominated ways clearing 6'0" once again. Rowe "quietly" walzed into town and easily won in record breaking fashion. There was supposed to be a showdown between Rowe and last year's champion/now previous record holder junior Katie Isenbarger of Zionsville IN. Isenbarger was US #2 5-11 during the indoor season and that match up for sure. But once again another MWP road block got in the way. Isenbarger competed with her team at the Lafayette Jefferson HS Speed Showcase Friday night.

Other key performances:

  • Host Lawrence Central IN used a 1-2 junior punch from De'Aira SImmons and Candace Jennings in the 100HH to score a quick 18 points. Simmons held off her teammate 15.40-15.97 an now holds the #2 time in the state.
  • Enyaeva Michelin (Jr., Evanston IL) went to the front as soon as the gun sounded in the 1600 and never looked back. Michelin clocked 72, 2:30 for her first two circuits in temperatures that were near 80 degrees. Michelin was unaffected by the lack of competition as she was working on bigger performances down the road.

Thea Bowma interview touches on their state series ban

  • Thea Bowman Academy of Gary IN ran well in the 4x100 relay knowing they will not be allowed to compete in the IHSAA state series due to an athletic sports ban for the entire program. Regardless, the quartet of Tychina Scott, Emijah Davis, Diamond Washington, and Melody Jones put together a strong effort and defending a solid field that featured four teams under 49 seconds. Bowman Academy ran a state best 48.31 to hold off Homewood-Flossmoor and Avon IN.
  • Madison Kiser (Sr., Pioneer IN) is the defending state champion and she proved that she will be tough to beat with a dominating performance that produced three of the fastest times for Indiana girls. Kiser pulled way late to run a meet record 2:14.08. Claire Sievern (So., Evansville Reitz) and Ashleigh Macleod (Sr., Penn) went 2-3 and under 2:17. Four girls broke 2:19.
  • Homewood-Flossmoor closed out the girls portion of the meet with a come from behind win in the 4x4 overtaking Penn 4:04.01-4:04.20
