Saturday morning race day began as dull and non descript. It hardly seemed like something big or major would happen. The overcast skies actually turned out to be a great day for cross country at Deer Grove East Forest Preserve in Palatine.
Coach Chris Muth's Lady Foxes lived up to their #3 ranking and repeated as champions. Yorkville put all five scorers in the top 25 to easily win scoring 73 points.
The boys side of things was a bit more tense. It first appeared as though St. Xavier of Louisville had won the team title because they had their tight knit pack up front. But the final verdict which featured front running prowess by Lake Zurich prevailed. The Bears put three runners in front of St. Xavier's top man junior Patrick Schaefer and difference was a 124-143 victory.
