Saucony Flo 50 Training Blog: Isabelle Sparreo

Isabelle and great friend/teammate Lauren Appell enjoy a fun moment prior to competition

Sunday 7/24:
Long run
10 miles at a relaxed pace. I ran in the middle of the day when it was the hottest (weather app said it felt like 102F!). I absolutely hate running or racing in the heat, which becomes a major problem in the beginning of the season. I've been trying to get myself to run when it's super hot to build my tolerance to the heat, but also being smart and not going to fast or doing it to often.

Monday 7/25:
Fartlek for 6 miles
Rotation between 15 seconds hard, 2 minutes recovery and 30 seconds hard, 3 minutes recovery.
I felt a little pain because I got new shoes and just started breaking them in today. I started out with my teammates, but I felt too comfortable, so I pushed my moderate pace to be faster and they stayed back.
Lifting-hang clean, dead lift, hammer curl, military dumb bell press, incline dumb bell press, upright row

Tuesday 7/26:
Recovery run for 60 minutes
7.87 miles at 7:33 average pace
I have a blister on the inside of the foot from the new shoes, but they feel pretty good in general. My hips were tight today and I could feel that my stride was shorter than usual.
Abs, push-ups, and hip exercises

Wednesday 7/27:
3x1200 2x1600 on xc course with 800 meter recovery
1) 4:20
2) 4:22
3) 4:19
-----------
1) 5:49
2) 5:44

8 miles
Today the grass was pretty wet, so we had to take it slower around any sharp turns. My 1200's were a little bit slower than last weeks since I took less recovery time in between. I pushed extra hard on my miles and was happy to see they were faster than my previous ones.
Lifting-hang snatch, back squats, bench press, wide lat pull, bicep curls, triceps extension

Isabelle interview at the 2015 Palatine Invite

Thursday 7/28:
65 minute recovery run
8.8m at a 7:28 average pace
Today, like usual, I met with my teammates, but only ran with them for about a mile or so before I picked up the pace. I felt pretty relaxed and focused on my form during my run.
Abs, push-ups, and hip exercises

Friday 7/29:
4 mile run at 7:26 pace with Vivian Overbeck (Vernon hills graduate and 2A all-stater in cross and track). I have run with her a couple times this summer because it definitely helps having someone closer to your speed to train with.
6x100 sprints to open up my legs afterwards.

Saturday 7/30:
Cross train for 40-60 minutes
Since today was my day off, I went for a bike ride around my neighborhood for 8 miles.
Abs and push ups
