A strong group of top milers from Illinois are headed down to St. Louis, Missouri for the Nike Festival of Miles racing against some of best distance runners found within the Midwest.
Recent 1A state champ senior and future of Illinois runner Jon Davis of Oakwood is one of pre-race favorites in the elite high school boys race with his 4:05.81 PR in the 1600. Also joining Davis in the race from Illinois are junior Jack Aho (4:12.27) of Grayslake Central, University of Oklahoma bound Heath Warren (4:15.32) of Springfield, junior Soren Knudsen (4:15.90) of Minooka, and senior Corey Landon (4:16.37) of Carlinvile. Could we see several boys from the state dip under 4:10 here?
Meanwhile, the Harvard University bound Judy Pendergast of Naperville North will be looking to take advantage of a deep high school girls mile field and roll to her first sub 4:50 performance in the mile. Pendergast has run 4:49.30 indoors for the 1600 and the Foot Locker All-American is the fourth fastest seed overall at the Festival of the Miles. This will be Pendergast's first race back since suffering a foot injury that prevented her from racing at the Illinois State meet several weeks ago. "We just ran out of time at state," said Naperville North coach Dan Iverson of Pendergast's absence. "If we had an extra 2-3 days she could have run state... hopefully at minimum [FOM] will be a good tune-up for New Balance Outdoor Nationals."
The boys 800 will feature two from Illinois in sophomore Josh Cable (1:53.25 PR) of Rochester and junior Tim Krashevsky (1:55.69) of Vernon hills, while another pair from the state can also be found in the girls 800 with junior Rachel Hickey (2:14.69) of LaSalle-Peru and sophomore Emma Milburn (2:14.95) of Lake Forest.
